This year’s stills campaign closely follows the moving and already legendary TV ad, it had over eight million views on You Tube in less than a week, and uses the same cast of animated characters created by the brilliant people at Mackinnon and Saunders in Manchester.

It was a marathon complex shoot but the magnificent results more than repay all the effort.  Congratulations to everyone involved!

The brewers Marstons hired Gavin Watson to create the story for their “From Burton With Love” ad campaign and product launch.  The idea was to get back their roots in their home town of Burton on Trent with a cast of employees, their friends and families; an ideal vehicle for Gavin’s blend of reportage and high energy realism.

Marstons, one of the great names in British beer – their Pedigree ale is an all time classic – have decided to update both their profile and their product range for the age of craft beers and microbreweries.  The campaign goes back to the very roots of the business in the home town of British brewing and aligns Marstons with what their marketing director Lee Williams described as “the authenticity and simplicity of the new beer scene.”

Given the brief, Gavin’s style was the perfect fit and, as it says in the foreword of his book ‘Skins and Punks’, he has the ability to make ‘ordinary’ people look like legends.   The campaign characters were all street cast either from the Marstons workforce, including head brewer Pat McGinty, or the general population of Burton and the story was shot in various locations in the brewery and the town.

“I wanted places that people would recognise,” Gavin said, talking about the choices of key locations and local landmarks, “I wanted to capture the spirit of a place – making it look as dramatic but as real as possible – about what it is to live and breathe in this town.  The ‘secondary town’ thing resonates with me. Burton still has its industry and it filled me with joy when I came to a town that still means something.

It’s in the blood; in the water. If you’re going to live, grow and die in this town you’re going to be connected to brewing in some way. You can sense it as soon as you get off the train.”

Art direction and the ideas that inspired the campaign come from Big Al’s Creative Emporium.

Scott Grummett was commissioned in 2015 by Lurpak to create a series of images based around the tagline ‘A Taste of…’ as in A Taste of Mexico, A Taste of Israel and so on.

‘We were presented with a list of national dishes to create with recipes using Lurpak’ Scott said, ‘and then to shoot them looking tasty.’  Mission accomplished!  Including the finest picture of a churro we have ever seen.

‘I love Christmas,’ said Katie, ‘ so I was utterly delighted to be involved in the Sainsburys Christmas campaign.

Katie and her crew embraced the challenge of creating festive cheer on an industrial scale in July in a studio in Shoreditch with energy and determination, cooking, styling and shooting scores of dishes.  They produced an amazing set of images that put a twist on the more traditional shots of Christmas fayre – all about food that has been enjoyed!

‘I was blessed to have a great team of people to work with,’ Katie added,’ my old friend David Morgan and my assistant Lou, who came over from Sydney for the first part of the shoot, and then Jo Harris and Julia Azzarello who took over for part two.’

Irvine has been making his mark on the British film industry, featuring in ‘Now is Good’, ‘Great Expectations’ and most famously as the lead in ‘Warhorse’ which led him to the demanding role of the young Eric Lomax in ‘The Railway Man’ . A story inspired by the real-life experiences of a prisoner of war of the Japanese in World War II.

Ray Burmiston whips up another masterpiece for Channel 4′s brand new cooking competition The Taste’.

Shot in the on-set kitchen at Pinewood Studios and featuring notorious domestic goddess Nigella Lawson, French born and bred chef Ludo Lefebvre and American chef and author Anthony Bourdain, the show follows a very similar format to hit BBC talent show ‘The Voice’, with contestants dishing up their finest cuisine for the ‘blindfolded’ judges in an attempt to gain a position on one of the gourmet chefs’ teams.

‘The Taste’ originates in The States where the US version produced by Lawson and Bourdain was a big hit. Let’s hope the UK version which airs tonight on Channel 4 at 9pm, will do just as well – a little pick me up for a certain judge whose 2013 didn’t end so well…

Moonfleet1

Shot in the heart of Ireland, Sky’s latest project from Shoot Production had us in Dublin’s Ardmore Studios to shoot Anuerin Barnard, (Citadel, The Truth about Emanuel) and the industry’s go-to gangster Ray Winstone (Sexy Beast, The Departed) to produce the mesmerising billboard for Sky’s Christmas two-part adaption of the popular 19th century children’s novel ‘Moonfleet’ by J.Meade Falkner.

Combining location shots from around various parts of Ireland, photographer Finlay Mackay and art director Simon Corkin worked fantastically in capturing the essence and adventure of Falkner’s tale of smuggling.

‘Moonfleet’ made for brilliant family viewing when it aired on the 28th and 29th December 2013.

Bulmers Born British – Back in December 2012 Shoot Production worked with Clemenger BBDO Melbourne to produce this national outdoor, online and print ad campaign that celebrates the cider brand’s British heritage.

Working closely with Clemenger Art Director, Lee Sunter, and photographer Ollie Grove, Shoot Production battled time zones and British Winter weather to produce these artistic black and white images of modern Britain streets- 6 locations shot around East London with over 20 talent sourced though street casting.

It was a pleasure working with our friends at Clemenger BBDO and in the words of Clive Coleman, general manager for Cider at Carlton and United Breweries: “The new campaign nails that street smart British attitude. Bulmers is all about celebrating doing your own thing and we wanted to capture this.”

GW-Farahblog1Gavin Watson’s latest fashion campaign is for the spring and summer offering from Farah Vintage which is now available in a host of stores including Urban OutfittersFarah is also the fashion sponsor of this year’s NME Awards.

One saviour and one degree of separation. Kevin Bacon stars in The Following on Sky Atlantic HD and appears on the dramatic billboards.

Shoot Production organised – in double quick time – the shoot to create the menacing hands background, recruiting a host of dancers to be hand models for the day and painting them in black.
